Kim Kardashian's Skims takes over iconic L.A. diner

Why would Kim Kardashian's Skims take over West Hollywood's Mel's Drive-In? Because it's iconic, and she loves to do iconic things.

The reality star and Los Angeles native opened up a Los Angeles flagship store for her shapewear and clothing line in the famous Sunset Strip in West Hollywood. This opening comes months after she opened a flagship location on New York's Fifth Avenue.

“Opening a Skims store in Los Angeles is a full-circle moment. This city has been a huge part of my life, and having a space here where people can experience the brand in person makes it even more special,” Kardashian said. “We’re just getting started, and I can’t wait for what’s ahead.”

Kardashian serves as the brand's co-founder and chief creative officer. She and Jens Grede launched the brand in 2019.

“Los Angeles has always been an important market for Skims and the place we call home, so opening a flagship store here was the natural next step,” says Jens Grede, cofounder and CEO of SKIMS. “Seeing our standalone stores come to life has been incredible, and we’re excited to keep expanding, giving both new and loyal customers a space to fully experience Skims.”

The storefront was designed by world-renowned design studio Rafael de Cárdenas, Ltd. and features Kardashian's long-known minimalistic aesthetic.

"The space is an architectural statement, seamlessly blending monumental design with the intimate, body-focused aesthetic that defines SKIMS. The design incorporates signature rounded-edge fixtures, custom tonal mannequins, and a layout offering customers
a seamless shopping experience," a press release stated.

To further celebrate the opening, the brand has partnered with the Mel's Drive-In next door for "a reimagined, Skims-inspired dining experience," which is a pop-up that features a custom photo booth, curated menu and signature Skims that fit Mel's vintage look.
