A major issue looms for the planned Fyre Festival II.
A representative from Playa del Carmen's City Hall stated that the music festival is not scheduled to take place there.
Just last week, Bill McFarland revealed that the festival was moved from Isla Mujeres to Playa del Carmen. In a press conference, he claimed he had the appropriate permits to hold the event.
In early March, a top official with Isla Mujeres said they didn't know about the festival even though packages were being sold from $1,400 to a million dollars.
The festival is set to take place from May 30 to June 2 as a chance for McFarland to redeem himself following the 2017 event in which guests were stranded on a Bahamian island without proper accommodations.
In 2018, he was sentenced to six years in federal prison for fraud after pleading guilty to two counts of wire fraud for his role in defrauding Fyre Festival investors and ticket vendors of about $26 million.
He was released early in May of 2022, according to Rolling Stone. He was held under house arrest until September 2022.
