The trilogy of an iconic coming-of-age story has been announced.
Actress Anne Hathaway posted on Instagram that she will be reprising her role as Mia Thermopolis the Princess of Genovia. The actress said, “Miracles happen. Back to Genovia.” Hathaway tagged Disney, Adele Lim and Somewhere Pictures in the post.
Hathaway also said, “The fairy tale continues.”
Disney released "The Princess Diaries" in 2001. Mia Thermopolis was a shy San Franciscan girl who learned she was the heir to a throne in a European country.
The movie has created multiple cultural landmarks, especially Mia Thermopolis' childhood home in the Excelsior District and a Pacific Heights mansion.
The sequel, "The Princess Diaries: Royal Engagement", was released in 2004.
Garry Marshall, who passed in 2016, directed the first two films. His successor will be Adele Lim, who also co-wrote “Raya and the Last Dragon” and “Crazy Rich Asians.”
