On Saturday, KTLA honored the life and legacy of our dear friend and colleague Sam Rubin.

Family members, current and former colleagues and friends gathered as his son, Colby Rubin, cut the ribbon to the new Sam Rubin Guest Green Room.

Prior to the dedication ceremony, KTLA hosted a short reception in the outdoor patio area where family and friends shared some kind words. Among them included the crack KTLA Entertainment Department staff, both past and present, to honor their anchor, mentor and friend. It was so special to see all the people who worked with our Sam.

"'I'll see you again soon,' throughout my life, you would say this over and over again. All too soon that day came. We had our last conversation before either of us realized it was," Colby said. "Now I say this, Dad if we never speak again, I'll see you in the sky."

Former KTLA Morning News anchor Carlos Amezcua touted Sam's fitness as he was a staunch supporter of the Bay to Bay bike ride, which supports the fight against Multiple Sclerosis.

"Each year he would ride miles and miles with Eric (Spillman) and others for this great cause," Carlos said. "What you probably don't know, Sam mostly enjoyed doing that because he liked the way he looked in those shirts!"

Carlos went on to call Sam "the GOAT of entertainment news."

Sam always said he preferred spirit to spirits and Saturday's mocktail menu reflected that. Of course, there were cupcakes galore along with instructions on how to eat Sam's favorite treat his way.

The KTLA Green Room is now called the Sam Rubin Green Room, and Sam's warm smile will greet every in-studio guest.

The station's Green Room served as Sam's favorite nap spot.

"He'd come in on the weekend show sometimes for awards shows and he'd disappear, and everybody would be like 'Where's Sam?' He would be sleeping on the couch there," Dayna Devon explained on the KTLA 5 Morning News.

Sam passed away in May and leaves behind his wife and four children as well as an unmatched legacy here at KTLA.
