Fans of the Showtime series "Dexter" will now learn how the Miami blood-splatter expert/ vigilante serial killer began his journey.
In a post to Instagram on Thursday, the network revealed that the prequel "Dexter: Original Sin" is "coming soon" and unveiled the three main cast members.
"Everyone’s favorite serial killer had to start somewhere," a post reads.
Actor Paddy Gibson takes over as the younger Dexter Morgan. Christian Slater will play Harry Morgan, Dexter's adopted father, a police officer for the fictional Miami Metro Police Department. Actress Molly Elizabeth Brown will play Dexter's foul-mouth adopted little sister Debra Morgan.
The series will take place in 1991 Miami where Dexter deals with the challenges of being a forensics intern within the city's police department while also dealing with his urge to kill.
During this time, Dexter and Harry create "The Code," which Dexter must obey when choosing his victims without getting caught by law enforcement.
Fans of the original series will remember Dexter abiding by the guidelines.
"Dexter" aired for eight seasons from 2006 to 2013. Michael C. Hall played the avenging killer, Jennifer Carpenter played Debra Morgan and James Remar played Harry Morgan.
The series made a short reprisal in 2021 with the 10-episode "Dexter: New Blood."
While there's no definitive debut date for the prequel, it will be available on Paramount+ with Showtime.
