Donkey at Universal Studios Orlando apparently isn’t a fan of the redesigned characters in "Shrek 5."
In a TikTok video, the animatronic version of Donkey, alongside the theme park actor for Fiona, was captured on video poking fun at the first teaser trailer for the upcoming "Shrek" movie.
Donkey noted that his character “looks rough” and "homeless" and that Fiona's "husband is embarrassed" to show his face because he "doesn't want to get questions about the new trailer."
“That’s why you always get final approval for your film and movie rights,” the character quips.
The teaser trailer for Shrek 5 was released last week and has sparked strong reactions on social media.
On X, many fans compared the old character design to the new one, saying that DreamWorks Animation, the studio behind the movie, “ruined the characters.”

Some fans are pressuring DreamWorks Animation to restore the characters to their original designs, comparing the situation to the social media backlash Paramount faced over its early “Sonic the Hedgehog” concept designs.
The official TikTok account for the Sonic movies alluded to the backlash in a recent video.
Still, some social media users defended the redesign, calling it “inevitable” given the original “Shrek” film’s 2001 release and advancements in animation technology.
“Shrek 5” will see the return of Mike Myers as Shrek, Cameron Diaz as Fiona and Eddie Murphy as Donkey. Zendaya joins the star-studded cast as the voice of Felicia, Shrek and Fiona’s daughter.
The highly anticipated movie is set to hit theaters on Christmas 2026.
